The TV series, “Broken", written by Jimmy McGovern and starring Sean Bean is set in an estate parish somewhere in the UK. The series focuses on the life and ministry Father Michael Kerrigan, a Roman Catholic, priest who, despite past trauma and anxiety about his own inadequacies, attempts to bring the light of Christ into the lives of the people amongst whom he ministers. The series portrays real life at its most gritty and unvarnished, and in doing so raises many questions about how to live faithfully when life is very hard.
**** This series is not for the faint-hearted, it contains disturbing and challenging story-lines, lots of swearing, and some violence. It’s 15 rated, but is wonderfully written and acted and raises important questions of faith and life *****
The Lent Course based on the series is written by well-known and respected Biblical Scholar Canon Dr. Paula Gooder. We’re offering a daytime and an evening course, and the dates and times are:
Wednesday mornings from 10.00am - 12 noon; & Thursday evenings from 7.30 - 9.30pm (ish!).

**** Updated Plan…. “The Life of Christ” ****
We are hoping to take a group to experience something rather special, “The Life of Christ” at the Wintershall Estate, Surrey.
"Watch as hundreds of actors bring the story of Jesus to life in an open-air epic production. Young and old from all walks of life will be mesmerised as the story unfolds across three captivating acts from 10am-3.30pm. The beautiful grounds provide an ideal location, with wonderful views, a landscape of lakes, plantations and ancient woodland and rich pasture for the grazing of their sheep and cattle. The retelling of this evoctative story against the peaceful backdrop of the Wintershall grounds has a profound effect on visitors.”
…. and it really does, both Paul and myself have been to Wintershall to see plays before! People with disabilities are welcome and buggies available. Bring lunch.Drinks and snacks available. Bring folding chair or picnic rug. Tickets: Adults £20; Children(3-18) £9.50; Concessions £18.
Our proposed plan.. is to go for a day trip (no longer to stay over), as this is considerably cheaper, but it will mean a really early start, about 5am!! The likely overall cost will be about £38 per person, plus a packed lunch and stopping somewhere for dinner. Please speak to me or David Bickley to register interest or for more details.
Compassion Notice Board
There are plans a-foot to renew the Compassion Board in church, including felting the cork-board! That means we will renew everything on the board and start again with our world map and photos of the children we sponsor. That means we need everyone who sponsors children through Compassion to please supply us with three things:
1. An up-to-date photo of your child
2. Their name
3. The country where they live
In addition, if there are children who you have supported in the past, please also pass on that information. Please can give all this information to Valdy, or to Rev’d Julia, as soon as you can, so we can continue to look at and pray for all ‘our’ children. Thank you.
Due to the changes to the law in supermarkets supplying bags - Foodbanks are in urgent need of carrier bags please. If you have a few spare they would be extremely grateful. Mandy will collect them from church and deliver.
Fairtrade “Big Brew”
As part of Fairtrade Fortnight, we will be holding a speical morning at church to raise funds for Fairtrade. On Saturday 3rd March, 10am-12noon. Please try to come along and support if you can. Ann, Sue, Viv and David - your Fairtrade Team.
Saturday 10th March, 10am-3pm. Open to all already involved in, or interested in, youth and children’s work. Leader for the day is Chris Burgham, the URC West Midlands Children’s Advisor. Please bring a packed lunch.
There will be a Confirmation Service on Sunday 18th March, 6.30pm at the Good Shepherd. Anyone interested please speak to me or Rev Chris. There will be a set of 6 Confirmation Preparation sessions on Sunday afternoons from 4-5.30pm at the Good Shepherd. The first week is Sunday 4th February.
