Dementia Friendly Celebration

South Staffordshire has been awarded Dementia Friendly Status - this means actions have been put into lace within the district to support people living with dementia and those who care for them. One of the areas of action has been through ecumenical faith communities led by Trinity Methodist Church, Codsall, which is now cited as ‘best practice’ in the county of Staffordshire. The Council would like to replicate this model.  All are invited to a Celebration Event on Wednesday 21st November at Church at 7.45pm, to hear how the Codsall ecumenical faith communities have contributed to the “Dementia Friendly Communities” award and to hear the plans for the future and how you can be part of it.

Posada is a Spanish word meaning ‘inn’. The Posada originates in Latin America where young people, dressed as Mary and Joseph, travelled from house to house asking for a room for the night and telling people about the imminent arrival of Jesus.

Modern day Posada use nativity figures which travel from place to place being offered hospitality by different people in the run-up to Christmas. We’ve been given a beautiful hand-knitted nativity and are asking different groups and individuals to welcome the figures as they journey.

They will set out from church on Sunday 25th November and journey through Advent to the Crib Service, 4pm, Christmas Eve. The figures will journey with information about the Posada, the Christmas Story, suggested prayers, and space to write comments about their journey.

We are hoping that lots of people will ‘host’ the characters during this month. If you’d like to get involved, please sign up on the list in the church foyer, and tick one or both of the boxes as there are two ways of getting involved:

1. The person before you on the Journey will arrange bringing the figures to you; and you arrange handing them on to the next person on the Journey. The hope is that when you hand over the figures you offer hospitality - perhaps a cup of tea, or even a glass of wine!

2. We need some people to take the figures to a community event e.g. a meeting of one of the uniformed organisations, as a way of including them in the journey. We will arrange the date and time for this and you’d just go along and meet the group, show them the figures and chat.

Please, please sign up to get involved!!

Church Christmas Meal

On Saturday 8th December we will gather for our Church Family Christmas Meal, in Church at 6pm. Please watch this space and the notices at church for details to sign up and make menu choices.

Christmas with a Difference!

Can you make some room for an international student to learn what true British Festive hospitality can mean? Should you like to add that international element to your Christmas, learning another country’s traditions and enjoying the connection and friendship that such sharing brings? HOST UK arranges for international students to enjoy brief home stays with UK hosts, one day, a weekend or, over the festive period, a three-day visit. We need more hosts so that a smile such as Marine’s can spread across many more faces… and across our fragile world. If you should like to know more, please go to our website: www.hostuk.org or leave a message on http://visits.hostuk.org/Public/ApplyToBecomeAHost

As you know Rev’s Julia and Paul are leading a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in February 2020. It’s been lovely to see how many are interested in coming along and recently someone, incredibly generously, approached Rev’d Julia offering to give a sum of money into a fund to provide bursaries to help some of those who are coming on the trip, but for whom it will be hard work to raise the money. This notice is simply to let you know about this as there may be one or two others in the church family who would also like to put some money into this bursary fund. This can be anonymous (only Phil, the Treasurer needs to know). If you would like to add to this bursary fund, please speak to Phil, or Rev’d Julia.  Thank you.
