This Weeks News

**** Family News

If you were at church yesterday you will have heard the wonderful, exciting and sad news that Chris and Jim will soon be moving away from Perton as Chris has been appointed to serve within the Wrockwardine Benefice. It’s fantastic news and a wonderful opporutunity for Chris to continue her ministry journey and serve in this new capacity, and exciting for Jim too. It is of course also going to be very hard as we say farewell to them after so very many years as part of the church family here in Perton. Please pray for them, and for us as a church, at this bittersweet time.  Chris and Jim’s last Sunday with us will be Sunday 11th August and there will be a party after the 10am service that day, so please do put this in your diaries. There will also be a collection for a leaving gift for Chris and Jim and please give any contribution to the church wardens.  Thank you.

No Planet B Event

As you are probably aware the ‘Extinction Rebellion’ demonstrations have been taking place globally to raise awareness of the growing threat to all life on Earth from the effects of global warming and consequential climate change brought about primarily through CO2 emissions. The current information from climate scientists is readily available and is rightly causing great concern as the situation is far worse than many of us ever imagined.

The IPCC (Intergovernmental panel on climate change) informs us that we have only 12 years to limit the growing numbers of catastrophes caused by the ‘green house effect ‘ this means that global warming needs to be kept to a maximum of 1.5C beyond which even half a degree will significantly worsen the risks of drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for hundreds of millions of people, not to mention the devastating effects on wildlife.

If any body would like to find out more, especially what we as individuals can do , there are a number of Churches who have come together to organise an event called ‘No Planet B ‘ The Ecumenical Planning Group have scheduled the meeting for Saturday 29th June 2019 at 10am -4pm at The Priory Rooms Meeting and Conference Centre, 40 Bull Street, Birmingham B4 6AF
(Free entry, with vegan food provided to sample )

Josh’s Ecuador Trip

Josh Morris worships at Christ Church and this summer, following his GCSE exams at St Peter’s school, is going with a small group of students from school to volunteer in Ecuador with Camp International. They leave on July 12th and will be there for 4 weeks visiting 4 different regions. It is all charity work and Josh will be working alongside other young people and the locals to help build community centre, toilet blocks, school - depending on what help is needed at the time. The group will also travel to the mountainous region to help with some of the much poorer areas. They will be planting trees on the edge of the Rainforest to replenish the devastation due to deforestation. The last week will be spent clearing marine debris, plastics etc off the beaches and shoreline to support environmental issues and a spot of scuba diving if all goes well.

Josh writes, "I am very much looking forward to this charity trip to support and help underprivileged people who need and welcome any help we can offer. Also I feel I wish to make a difference no matter how small, for the forgotten people and the world needs to be respected, cherished and cared for. I have worked so very hard since last May doing every type of job I can think of, things I've never done before in my life! Christ Church and Good Shepherd have supported my quiz evenings and afternoon tea party and I am so very grateful to them and to everyone who has shown me support. I am excited, obviously a bit worried as I've never been away from home for 4 weeks, never so far away from home, never flown anywhere before, I will no doubt be homesick and hope my mom n dad don't worry too much! But I am passionate about this cause and preparing myself for some of the hardship I will encounter (if its possible to prepare for this). I hope you and the congregation will keep me in their prayers and think about me when I'm away. Thank you.”

The ECC have also unanimously agreed to support Josh in prayer and with a financial gift. Please keep Josh and the team in your prayers this summer.
